Except German cars are designed with European license plates in mind & it looks quite elegant on them. Not so for the atrociously shaped North/South American license plate, which resultantly fails to match with the design.

Me thinks some people just want to be rebels about the front plate thing just like going 85 mph in the city.

When I got pulled over for it by DPS, I was not angry about it because I knew I willingly broke the law in order to avoid the hassle of installing a front plate bracket. I did still find it annoying.

With the possibility of toll roads happening in San Antonio and the fact they already exist in other cities, you can bet that the front plate law is here to stay. Big Brother has to get your digits somehow.

But I agree, working through your elected representatives is the way proper way to go to get laws you disagree with changed.
This change won't happen in the foreseeable future in Texas, now that license plates are crucial to toll-collection. The vendors who run our toll roads are dependent on being able to read those plates to collect their tolls. Having plates on the front and rear gives the vendor 2 chances to bill the toll-road user who's not enrolled in the toll tag system.

TxTag is for those that pay legally. License plates are used to bill those that use tolls without TxTag.

There is, Paka - for one thing, there are times you're trying to get a license plate number of a vehicle that's rear-ended you and is backing away. That's just one reason........one that benefits ALL of us (unless you're the idiot that did the rear-ending...... ).

They still use the license plate to associate the car with the account. I don't have an actual sticker (probably because it got lost in the mail) but I still pay the discounted rate when I go through. Just a "more you know" moment.

They made the whole Inspection and new plate purchase a big pain so just be happy that you don't have to buy them separately. I mean really they could require different numbers for some reason. Front or Back. Boy or Girl. Electric or gas. Gas or Diesel. Air or Methane. Animal or Vegetable. It is for the good of all of us.
