Looking for options in San Antonio for New Year's Eve with a teenager. Has anyone gone downtown to Hemisfair Park for Celebration San Antonio? I was thinking it might be fun but am worried about the crowds.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you Paka. I had googled and found that earlier. Just seems that NYE activities are so limited for a city this size. I was interested in Bowlero but for the "midnight ball drop" you have to be 18. We could go during the day but that defeats the purpose of being somewhere at midnight. : )

Has anyone been downtown to Hemisfair Park for New Year's? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Depending on the weather, it can be fun or not so much. Have you looked into things like the Main Event and places like Cosmic Bowling?

I've been to Hemisfair for New Year's before and it was fun, but it's been a long time. Our neighborhood is like a huge rowdy party on NYE so we don't go anywhere except out into the street to pop fireworks, play music, and hang out with everyone.

When I looked at Bowlero's Midnight Ball Drop, it says you must be 21+ unless accompanied by parent or guardian. So it sounds like you could go. You'd want to call and make sure and also ask what kind of ID is required.

I would reccomend going downtown only if you have a private party to attend. It's like any downtown event where there's the general public cramming around to see everything and then everyone else looking down at the "peasents." I went maybe 4 years ago? I don't think much has changed since then.

True. I forgot the massive overhaul. But I would think the crowds would still be rather large.

Really? HemisFair's celebration is among the biggest in the US.

My friends with teens really enjoyed it last year. We live right next to there so we usually hang out at home and everyone in our neighborhood has gatherings so we just wander around the neighborhood and stay close to home. I've never actually been in the park for the event as I don't need to, but those I know who've gone have said it is fine for teens. In fact, that's what they usually do since the teens can't get into the bars etc.

I went downtown last year and had a blast.

This year IDK if I would go because it is supposed to be in the mid 30's and rain. (they are still expecting 250,000 people)

We have plenty to do on NYE for adults, but as you can hear a theme in this thread a lot of people party right in their own hood.
