Looking at areas in Texas to relocate. Most areas just west and between San Antonio and Austin. Came across Canyon Lake and amazed at how inexpensive the homes are considering most have a view of the lake and compared to many of the areas I have viewed. Also, when moving to Texas, what questions should a home buyer be sure to ask?

Because there's not much lake left?

Low water levels reported in Canyon Lake

Part of it is that the area is really out there from both San Antonio and Austin. Hardly anybody wants to commute over an hour and half in bad rush hour traffic to go to work every day. So that's going to limit the pool of potential buyers. And as Bo said, there's not a lot of lake left these days so demand is pretty weak right now.

Canyon Lake looks amazing compared to Lake Travis.

It's a far commute to anything, not a lot of lake left, not great schools

Just for reference, In regard to the commute, I met a friend in Buda (I was coming from the Medical Center) for a concert. When I dropped her off in Buda, she then had to drive back to Canyon Lake. I was completely sure she would make it back home before me. We got back at our respective homes at about the exact same time (in the middle of the night but still...) I had no idea it was really that far out.

I don't think the schools are bad as skittlebits mentioned. Canyon Lake is Comal ISD for the most part (perhaps a bit of New Braunfels ISD).

Appreciate the feed back. Don't require commuting to work and ok with rural area as long as there is a Walmart or Costco within 20 minute drive. We are looking for something similar to where we are here. I did read about a flood in 2002 from too much rain. Sounds like that is not an issue any more. With the lake low, has all the recreational activities been banned?

They lake is fine.

The schools are average for the area.

The commute is rough.

You will be 20 minutes to a Wal-mart but it will take 35 minutes to get to a Costco.
