I'm really wanting to relocate to San Antonio, TX. I am a legal secretary. Does anyone know the market for legal secretaries in San Antonio? Are there many?

It's not like Dallas or Houston with so many large law firm, but yes, there are tons of law firms in SA as it is a big city. There are also in-house opportunties like Valero, USAA

Anyone in the Administrative field I always recommend contacting temp agencies. A lot of companies will go to agencies to fill open positions with a contractor so they can try before they buy. If this works out that person normally gets the position. I don't know if there is an any agencies that cater specifically to the legal admin but I would reach out to a few and ask them. You could always work in a basic Administrative job and still look for one in the legal industry.

If you're a good legal secretary (with strong writing skills, and excellent English) -- you will do well. This was a few years back, but I did legal secretary work all through college and right up to grad school. I found that there were so many people with poor ENGLISH skills, that I was always in demand. And yes...I mean English, as in the English language. It was a weird advantage.

Austindoxie,

I've been a legal secretary forever in the big Los Angeles firms. Your input never crossed my mind, but it makes sense. As it is we have a hard time hiring a decent legal secretary in the firm I am at presently.

So that really eases my anxiety. Thank you!

Glad to have helped! I started out working for a temp agency that placed me in a firm. I then started contracting with firms on my own. Lawyers move around! Best of luck!!

Shouldn't have too much problem finding a job. Agree with above, strong English skills go a long way here, since SA is majority Hispanic and we have a ton of Spanish speakers. You'll be taking a pay cut, but your cost of living will be less.

I don't speak Spanish. How much can that hurt me?

It helps..but not necessary. Professionally, I wouldn't know about your field. I would guess you would use English only, but hell if I know. Make sure to cover that subject on your interviews.
