Can anyone point me in the direction of a pit builder or brick mason/ handyman that could build me a brick BBQ pit? Nothing fancy just a brick pit with steel doors. We just bought a home in the Alamo ranch-riverstone and would prefer a brick smoker as opposed to the traditional steel smoker.

Yes, it was - and in fact, he contacted me via PM about whether I'd had any luck. I had to inform him that I finally gave up and built my own steel smoker - so he's obviously hoping SOMEONE out there might know of someone, or perhaps a new member has joined since that would know. It IS frustrating - because I KNOW there's someone out there, but my 3-year search was fruitless. Had several that SAID they could, and they'd come out, we'd discuss the project size/scope - but that's where it ended, without ever a single bid.

Sad part is, I *never* indicated budgetary concerns of any kind. No "well, be sure to give me a GOOD price", etc. That tends to turn off most contractors - they figure that we'd know they're going to do what they can to earn our business.

Maybe ask a local place like Dough's who built their brick oven. I know Grimaldi's uses a builder from PA, at least for the LA Cantera store.

Stop by the local Home Depot in the contractor section and see if they can point you to someone.

Personally, I'd just weld together an offset firebox to an upright cabinet, set it on a slab and rock/brick it in.
