My wife and I too have considered moving to N.B. I have done some research and scouted the forums here. We will be moving from Minnesota to the Hill Country area (N.B or San Marcos) or some other recommended areas. Any help would be appreciated.

It's great to know people are reading my post! When I started this post over a year ago, I was so nervous about moving to a different place, but I am so glad I did. I love New Braunfels and would not mind staying here for a long long time. I've been shopping in San Marcos quite a few times, and although it's nice, I prefer N.B. If you have kids, the schools here are great. I have 3, one that's in Kindergarten. He absolutely loves it. I am very impressed with the school he attends. We have had lots of fun here and have made great friends. Texas is a GREAT place to live.

How does New Braunfels compare to Georgetown
I love Georgetown and was wondering how New Braunfels compares to it. I heard NB is the new up and coming area. Do you need to go to the big cities often or is NB self contained enough to only occassionally need the big city. I didn't check this area out last month when I was there and I wish I would have. We went to a new huge community just starting out but I think it was north of NB not too far off (west) of I-35. Many big builders had models there. Now I wish I would have had time to go into town and see the river. Are jobs plentiful there. I hope people are still reading this thread.

Hi Pinda. We just moved to New Braunfels from Los Angeles area and it seems cool. I don't know Georgetown-where is that? New Braunfels has all the stores and lots of food places and businesses but if you want or need something else we just been going to San Antonio which isn't far, only about 15 minutes or hard to tell cause I'm not sure of the outskirt lines yet, it's only been like 2-1/2 weeks for us. But it's not that we need too, just for whatever or choices. We see the river and the people tubing on it (which is a big thing here and it has been HOT) but it's not really our thing as of yet so it's just nice to look at for now but maybe we'll try it eventually. Did you want to know anything specifically? I know how I felt when making such a huge move to here and loved that people were willing to answer questions. It's a nice place to live as far as I can see. Nicer and quite a bit quieter and slower than Los Angeles which is great for us. And cheaper.

Count us in as hopeful relocatees to the area. Any info would be appreciated.
Do those floods affect the town, or just the areas near the rivers? We get a lot of flash flooding here in AZ, but only near the "rivers" and washes...

Moving to New Braunfels?
We moved to New Braunfels from the Houston area 15 years ago and wouldn't change a thing. New Braunfels is really a nice town. It has the ammenities of a larger city with a small town feel. In the summer there is a lot to do. There are two main beautiful rivers, the guadalupe and comal, both of which are swam, floatted, and skiied on on a daily basis. We also have many smaller shops and antique stores, not sure if your interested in that sort of thing. Schlitterbahn is also big here. It is the largest waterpark in texas.
Floods in this area are not a regular thing. It has flooded 3 times in 15 years and it doesn't really effect the entire city. Mainly the areas by the water get effected, except for your side streets here and there that may collect water from heavy rains.

I have lived in New Braunfels for over 25 years now and consider myself an expert on the area, if you have any questions or concerns about New Braunfels or surrounding area, please feel free to ask me. I love this town and will help anyone else who is interested in moving here to love it too.
