Does anyone know where Datapoint Dr. is in San Antonio...is it a good area? Looking at apartments by there. Thanks!

Medical Center area of town. Fine location for an apt. Very busy in that area.

That is a very good area for apartments. Many of the apartments in that area are in a 1980s style (with brown wood ceiling fans and brown wood cabinets, etc.). I just helped a friend look for apartments around there, and that's what many were like. If you go just a little farther north, or farther west near Babcock, things are mixed, but you tend get into more of the 1990s, with white ceiling fans and white cabinets, etc.

Thanks for the info. My only worry was reading that it is a busy area. Busy meaning...traffic? I think I'm just fearful that I'll go to an area that reminds me of California. Once I drive away from here...I never want to be reminded of what it was like!

Well, it's going to be pretty busy re: traffic in a lot of places. There is less traffic outside of loop 1604. I lived in a complex in Helotes called Elm Hollow. Very nice people and VERY quiet, but traffic at 1604 and Bandera Rd. can be intense. There is tons of sprawl here, so it may be hard for you to avoid it. Perhaps others have some ideas...

Traffic can get congested but mostly the roads within the Medical Center.

But I doubt you'll be reminded of California.

Yeah, depending on where you are in CA, San Antonio may have very little traffic by comparison. This is an excellent place to come if you want to escape a CA vibe.

From what I read above, the apts. I'm looking at are by the medical center part of town...so I guess I picked the wrong street! I guess I just have to trust I chose San Antonio for a reason and it works out. Is the Medical Center it's own kind of town or something? A lot of people refer to it. I think I am just stressing over something I will have to wait and see for myself. I have to laugh at my imagination....I keep thinking I"m going to enter San Antonio and it's going to be some wild party town. Please say it's not!!!

Also, is SA a good place to start a family?

The Medical Center describes an area between 410 and I-10 West that surrounds a bunch of medical facilities and Oak Hills Country Club. Concentrated amount of apartments/condos with few single-family homes. You're at the mercy of the 10 headed to downtown, because there aren't many direct routes on surface streets, and the freeway is under constant construction.

The Medical Center (the actual name is South Texas Medical Center) is located 8 miles northwest of downtown.

The pink area is the medical center:

It is bounded by Hamilton Wolfe Rd. to the north, Fredericksburg Rd. to the east, Louis Pasteur Dr. to the south and Babcock Rd. to the west.

Here's a picture of the medical center I found on Flickr.

A lot of people refer to it.
The Medical Center serves over 4 million people a year. That's up from a little over 900,000 in 1990. It's fastly growing and becoming a world wide name. They're pouring money into that area like crazy.

It's not losing any steam even with Stone Oak and its developing Medical Center.

Heck yes.
