I'm putting together a private event here in SA for some local leadership and I'm looking to bring in some people that have been deeply involved in making the SA community a better place.

I can always get the big names like Gordon Hartman, Harvey Najim, etc.

I'm looking for people that nobody's ever heard of. People that have a passion for something and have been out making a difference in the community. Maybe it's someone running a ministry out of their home feeding the homeless. Maybe it's someone working with gang members to change their lives. Maybe it's someone out there championing voting and getting folks to vote. Etc.

Anyone out there know of some local folks that are "in the trenches"?

The staff at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) Warrior Family Support Center. These people provide a comfortable, relaxing environment for wounded service members, and their family members to spend time in, away from the clinical setting of medical offices, and away from the confines of cramped motel rooms. They also organize and coordinate hundreds of volunteers seeking to provide catered or home cooked meals for the same audience each year.

I would nominate the directors of Moms Connect About Autism - Home - MoCAA Moms - because they have done so much to support the caregivers of people with special needs. Also if you can get Eva Longoria on your list, haha, she co-founded the San Antonio charity called Eva's Heroes. I feel so thankful to have been served by both of these organizations.

I'm going to nominate a co-worker of mine. I've known the guy for over 10 years and he has his own charitable organization that gets a bunch of guys and girls to dress up as super heroes and they visit kids in hospitals, put on special events for kids like first-run movie premieres. They just do a lot of good for sick/disabled kids as well as underprivileged and even the food banks.

Local Poet & Musician - Andrea "Vocab" Sanderson

Has added tremendous cultural value to San Antonio...accomplished poet, singer and hip hop artist. She works with nonprofits like Martinez Women's Center, facilitates writing workshops with our youth, represented SA in numerous poetry slams and hosts/supports countless events/artists in the city. Her work not only provides a voice for self expression, but empowers young men and women to express theirs as well. She is Puro San Antonio through and through. This is just tip of the iceberg, check her out...you'll be glad you did.

If ya don't know now ya know...ya know...
