So the express news loves to use these Niche rankings, but do they actually carry any weight?

Top 20 private high schools in the San Antonio area for 2016, according to Niche - San Antonio Express-News

The top 3 are probably right on target. (Keystone, Saint Mary's Hall, TMI)

One interesting takeaway from the statistics... only 75% of SACS (San Antonio Christian Schools) students pursue 4 year degrees. That has to be an outlier or mistake.

I love statistics so I went to review the Niche rankings. I am not quite sure how they obtain 4 year matriculation rates but it all seems about right.

SACS graduate here. My class had about 75 students graduating and I don't know of anyone that didn't attend a college/university that next year. I haven't kept tabs on everyone but I would say 80-90% ended up graduating from a university at some point.

I was "accepted" to Keystone, but my parents could not afford either the tuition or the transportation issues, so did not get to go. Although there was "financial assistance" the transportation issue was the show stopper. That was in 1969. All these years later, still rated #1. THAT says something about this school!!!!! I would not hesitate for a single second to get my child into Keystone IF they pass the requirements. This, in my book, is the #1 school in SA. Back then, it was the ONLY school that accepted students based on potential vs $$$$$$$$.

Some observations on the top-3

1) Keystone - definitely the "Tiger Mom" institution of San Antonio. A lot of high achieving asian families gravitate to this school. It definitely draws from all over the city. Academics is #1 here and unparalleled.

2) St Mary's Hall - this is the status school of San Antonio. A place to see and be seen, except during school days when nannies pull into family named parking spaces to drop off and pick up their subjects. Many send their children here just for the business connections with other families. Relentlessly focuses on fundraising, and promotes academics as a "tuition reimbursement program" for the 20K tuition, however no graduates went to the ivy leagues last year. A sore subject for a lot of parents there.

3) TMI - the Dominion and wealthy Boerne crowd. Wants to be like St Mary's Hall, but always is just a quarter step behind (in their eyes). Quite a few Mexican national families. There is the ROTC military aspect as well. Kind of a quiet school, but powers through every year with strong results for the kids.

and, on SACS...

SACS is THE institution for upper middle class Stone Oak God fearing residents. A resounding 0% of families voted for Obama in both elections. Academics are good. Athletics are better. Prepping your kiddos for Alabama and Ole Miss fraternities and sororities is best. Bama bangs abound.

Pretty accurate, although a large amount of my graduating class went to A&M (including me).

I stand by my assertions...

Wait... Maybe, just maybe, David Robinson voted for the President.

haha. This is good to know, should we ever decide to pull our kids out of SAISD ;-)

I do know quite a few families at #1 & 2, none of whom fit the stereotype you present, but I've been in that world enough that I can appreciate that perception.
