Coupons can be easily found elsewhere for free.

My questions were specific to another poster's response about the paper, if it didn't apply to you that might have been the start of the confusion.

YES!!!! If the actual cost required it, the increase in price would have reflected it. To "increase" the price by 50% shows that they are trying to recoup monies lost thru other avenues, because they would have raised the price a LOT EARLIER had they been suffering a "loss".

Lets say you are buying a car....if they raise the price $2K you are like, oh well, I guess it is the cost of doing business. If they decided, one day, to raise the cost by 33 1/3% would you agree????

How do you know they had been losing money? That's my question, how do you know its gouging? It seems more like an emotional reaction instead of one based on logic and the actual definition of gouging

"Price gouging" is a prejorative term.

Quote:
A pejorative (also called a derogatory term,[1] derogative term, a term of abuse, or a term of disparagement) is a word or grammatical form expressing a low opinion of someone or something, or showing a lack of respect for someone or something.
So I think it is reasonable to consider the price increase of the newspaper by 50% as price gouging to some.

Why not incorporate the definition of price gouging?

Quote:
Price gouging is a pejorative term referring to when a seller spikes the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair, and is considered exploitative, potentially to an unethical extent.

The practice is illegal and the texas attorney general will investigate

That's the new subscriber promotional rate for Wednesday & Sunday. Non-promotional rate is $26/month.
