Has anyone else heard that HEB is planning a new Central Market location off of De Zavala? Sources tell me that is what they are planning for the 22 Acres they bought earlier this year. Seems to make sense to me close to the Dominion and Shavano Park.

Seems like a very odd place for one. There are two large HEB's, A Super Walmart, A neighborhood market Walmart, and a Target all with in throwing distance.

The Target at De Zavala is a plain Target and not equipped with groceries. I would hardly add it as competition for any grocery stores in the area. I think a central market would be nice in the area since it is not close to any TJs or Whole Foods. I think the closest option relative to the CM model is a Sprouts on Callaghan.

With the Proximity to the Rim, La Canterra and all the high end homes on the I10 West Corridor I think it would make perfect sense. The location on Broadway is landlocked and I don't see how they could expand it. I hope the rumours are true.

Where is this 22 acres off of DeZavala that you speak of?
I can see the possibility of a Central Market around the Rim/1604 and 10 area , but not off of DeZavala.

I was wondering the same thing. There is already an HEB at DeZavala & I10.

Although it is not branded as a Central Market, doesn't the Alon HEB at NW Military & Wurzbach Parkway incorporate some of the Central Market elements?

If you look at Central Market on Broadway, the Lincoln Heights HEB is not that far away so I don't think it would stop HEB from building another CM in the area if the rumor is true.

The Lincoln Heights HEB occupies a former Albertson's store. The Central Market was already in existence, when HEB took over the old Albertson's location. Indeed, it is only a little more than two miles further up Broadway.

That's why I was wondering "where" along DeZavala, the property in question is located. Since the existing HEB is about midpoint along that stretch of road, at I10; unless the property is at Babcock to the west, or at NW military to the east, a new store would be closer to the existing store, than the two Broadway stores are to each other.

The Alon store is a pretty good supermarket. Interestingly, when it opened many of the HEB's ditched their Kosher or Jewish foods. IIRC, CM used to have a good Passover display and they don't have a large one now.

I would think a new CM (and I also heard that they don't build them anymore) would be more viable towards Stone Oak. But they have that new fancier HEB in that area.

I won't hold my breath for a new CM. BTW, on 1604 and Bandera - they knocked down the old gas station and are putting in a new one with what looks like a convenience store. Is that a new type for HEB?
