I have been accepted lately to UTSA for their graduate program in Economics. It is through their College of business.

I am not from Texas so I don't know how popular or reputable UTSA is.

Can someone give me an overview of UTSA, reputation among the society, reputation among potential employees and so on.............

My 2 cents: UTSA has a good reputation in the city and beyond. I don't know anyone who has attended for their Masters degree but know many people who went to undergrad there and were pleased with their education. I know two young women who graduated last year in Business/Finance and both secured excellent jobs in San Antonio upon graduation (both were good students, on Deans' List, etc.).

Good luck!

If Ricardo Romo is still the president, that would be a good sign in my mind. He has done a lot for the school and made it better known

The questions were very generic which led to my comment. If they are "tell me about what activities there are, are there grad students living in it off campus, what activities are there outside of campus..." Etc I would have answered with more of a local's response.

But with that said I think the school is pretty highly ranked. Utsa has changed a great deal in the last ten years from a step above a community college to a good option for undergrad and grad programs in the state.

I have a relative who was in a grad program out there for a year or so then the school discontinued it. They offered to let those already in the program finish up but the scheduling of classes made it impossible. She went to Incarnate Word where she got her Masters. Said there was no comparison between IW and UTSA, with the former being hands down the better school with more serious students. Just one person's experience. Your mileage may differ.

Not to sound rude, but didn't you research this before you applied?

UTSA's business school is FULLY accredited by the AACSB, which is generally regarded as the accreditation of choice for business schools, and I believe, is still the only B-school in San Antonio with AACSB accreditation. (As for the comparison with UIW, I do know the acceptance rate at UIW is higher.)

UTSA would be considered a regional school...employers from the area would know it, but not necessarily employers from other regions.

UTSA has been steadily improving which is a good thing for the city. However, the school's academic reputation is generally confined to the local area and is not readily competitive nationally (although specific programs are or may be). If you plan on living in/around San Antonio upon completion, you should be fine. If you plan on living out of state, you may have a bit more difficulty competing against other that have a bit more credentials from attending other larger/nationally recognized programs. Not a hit on UTSA, just a fact from a non-local.
