In case you haven't used Google Map's Street View feature before, Google Maps, it is a service that tacks on street level photos to their mapping functionality. They have guys driving around for weeks in a car with a roof mounted bidirectional camera taking dozens of photos per block.
They have been cataloguing most major cities for years, but I thought they stuck to business areas and was surprised at just how much of the residential areas they also go into. The blue lines in the first image below show all the SA streets they have taken photos off. Its pretty extensive. The second and third images show the details available when you click on a particular address.

Here is a link to the type of camera they use. Smile if you see one of these cars/vans coming. You're about to be immortalized on the web.

OMG! My street and house is in that view. And, it's pretty recent too. Google Maps still misspells my street name even though I told them about it (-5 for spelling with overall grade of 95). About 3/4's of Westcreek is "pictured out." Great post StanStelle!

LOL!!! Well, it's been several weeks since they took ours. It was taken on trash day. Daughter was home, but I wasn't (can tell by the cars). But it was recent enough for the lawn to be dormant. Funny....... yet creepy!! Gonna look up old houses now!!

I found my house, but the numbering is waaaaaay off. I'm halfway down the block, but the number displayed above the photo is higher than the last house on the block.

That's nothing new. People in the real estate industry take pictures of your home all the time. If the home you have been living in has ever been on the market within the past ten years or so there's probably a picture of it somewhere. I'm sure the appraisal district does it also as well as companies that sell photographs and database information to other companies like zaio.com, zillow.com, flickr.com, infoUSA.com and emergency dispatch services like 911.

Where do I get a job like that?
If they have my picture, I hope they got it before my lawn got as bad as it is.
