Try Luna on San Pedro inside 410. Nonsmoking atmosphere and great acts.

mpfree is on a distinguished road
Luna is a great place for a variety of acts. My all time favorite is an oldie but a goodie - Jim Cullum's The Landing. Great jazz, great atmosphere. Nice cozy tables, dim lights and the band is almost on top of you. Love it!

Please note that the music at the Landing is not as contemporary as at Luna though what you'll hear at either is timeless. But I think they both get it right as far as keeping away from Smooth Jazz. If you like Smooth Jazz, wait for an act to come to town or listen to Sunday Morning Jazz (blech!!) on KQ102.

I third the Luna reccomendation...You can also try Carmen's De La Calle Cafe on Thursdays for some great live jazz, and the new Kirby's steak house up on 1604 has been booking some good acts. There's also Dolores Del Rio on the riverwalk and Stephania's in Monte Vista on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you want to stay in the know, listen to San Antonio's jazz Station - KRTU Jazz 91.7 (I work there)...krtu 91.7 fm | jazz for san antonio.

We bring in the legends of jazz twice a year...over the past five we've brought Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Poncho Sanchez, John Scofeild, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea and others...on March 28th, it's DIANNE REEVES. Tickets are on sale right now. San Antonio is a great jazz town and it's only getting better, welcome!

Can you guys bring in Karrin Allyson? I think she's got a wonderful voice.

Love Dianne Reeves. Heard her for the first time on Good Night and Good Luck.

I like Karrin Allyson too...but we probably won't bring her in anytime soon since we try to switch up the genre from year to year...this year being "vocal jazz" hope you can make the Dianne Reeves show.
