I got my wife a birthday cake from there a couple of years ago and she liked it better than any other cake I've found in San Antonio. I tried to get another one from there last year, but her birthday was on a Saturday and they were booked solid for wedding cakes that weekend.

They must have a jealous competitor or two then. I'll have to stop by the next time I need a cake. Luckily everyone always loves a Nothing Bundt Cake but they're pretty generic. You can add things to them but they get pricey for just a bundt cake. That frosting, though. so good.

For the OP: Have you considered buying a Pittsburgh Penguin party kit from Party City online? You would then have Penguin themed plates, cups, napkins, etc., and you could buy a birthday cake from HEB or Wal-mart. If you are a Costco member, there is one directly behind the Chuck E. Cheese that you mentioned in the other post.
Actually, I haven't, since my daughter wants the logo. Also, cakes made in stand alone bakeries tend to taste a lot better than cakes from stores like Wal-mart, since it is what they do day in day out. I will eat cake from Walmart and other grocery stores, but it is not my preference. Thanks for the tip, though.

Another suggestion is "The Exclusive Cake Shop" off Bandera road. Never purchased a cake from there, but had a couple slices in the past and thought it was delicious.

I looked at all the web-sites for all the bakeries mentioned. Then I contacted them all, even though it seemed to me that some of the bakeries mentioned would not make the kind of cake I am looking for; a personalized birthday cake for a child. I hoped that they would send me verification that it is not what they do. The only bakery that contacted me back was Lucy's Cake Shop. With technology being what it is in this day an age, I know that someone with the other bakeries saw my messages, but never bothered to reply. I thanked them for not replying and deleted their contact information. While all of these bakeries make cakes, the only one interested and capable of making me the type of cake I need, is Lucy's Cake Shop. When in San Antonio and needing a personalized birthday cake, the clear choice is Lucy's Cake Shop. Thanks everyone!

They look pretty but taste like cardboard. In my opinion.

Whipstitch is indeed much better.

Why not? What do you do with the information you get on forums like this? It isn't like the information was completely thorough.

Most recommendations didn't include a phone number or web-site link to the bakery site. One recommendation: Nothing Bundt Cakes, clearly showed me that the person who answered did not pay attention to the question I asked. Nothing Bundt Cakes does not make personalized birthday cakes. They taste okay and all and can be used as birthday cakes, but are not what I said I was looking for.

I posted a question, got some answers, followed up on the information, reached a conclusion and shared my conclusion with those who had posted to this question. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Seems like the decent thing to do when you ask a question and others take the time to answer.
