Hey, so I got a friend of mine that wants to go to Brass Monkey, what kind of place is it and what kind of music do they plan on Saturdays? Does anyone know?

Eclectic crowd with a good mix of old and new jams.

Its in a shady side of town. Been few stabbings and shootings. Be careful, I would take a cab also, parking is a pain and dont risk your car getting broke into

The Brass Monkey is not in a shady part of town, BUT the bar and the clientele are shady. It is by far the bar on the St. Mary's with the most issues.

I went about a year ago and did t feel it was a shady crowd at all. A mix of young and old. What was more amazing was how crowded the whole St. Mary's st. area was. I'm usually down there early in the morning running and it was quite a shock to see cars parked up and down the street. Check out brass monkey and then head to another bar nearby if you dislike it.

Go check any news site. They just had all the owners come up with a plan to help fight all the crime.
Someone got stabbed in front of the mix a month ago.

Sorry if you live there but next time do some research

I used to frequent the limelight and the mix several years ago. I agree the area is a bit shady but certainly not the worse of SA. Never been to Brass Monkey so I can't comment on that place.

I wouldn't consider Tobin Hill shady, and it will be far from shady in a couple years. I've enjoyed Brass Monkey the couple times I've been, cheap drinks and not the same boring top 40 remixes a lot of clubs play.

There has been violence outside Stone Oak clubs and plenty of violence outside The Falls on Bitters, but those areas aren't shady.

Anywhere there are bars or clubs in San Antonio, there will be violence, drug use, and other types of petty crimes.
