I'm working on getting my early teen daughter to feel comfortable with handling firearms and thought I'd start with an air rifle. I couldn't find any city regulation that prohibits their use in backyards, however it's probably not safe so does anyone know of a spacious open place where the public can come to shoot one? I grew up in a semi-rural area and spent my youth knocking off cans in my backyard, but in the city homes are too close. I don't know if they're used at gun ranges, but since she's a bit anxious about real firearms I'd rather stay away from such a place for now.

Thanks for any tips

I know you can't use it in a city park. https://www2.municode.com/library/tx...PABAGUSPGUFUMI

You could call the ranges and ask. My favorite range to take my kids to is Bracken. They're really consistent about safety procedures there and about monitoring everyone on the range. My second favorite is A Place to Shoot. I live down the road from Bullet Hole but I won't take the kids there. Bracken also charges per gun and per target rather than per shooter, which is a lot cheaper because we usually just take my gun and we share a target. My 10 year old will only fire a couple of rounds. My 14 year old has been shooting for years and will shoot as many rounds as I'm willing to buy for her.

My kids learned with spring powered airsoft handguns in the garage. I bought a bunch of sticky targets with the tray to catch the plastic pellets (because they really hurt to step on) and put them all over the garage. If you put them on the garage door, you have to watch out for the pellets bouncing off...I make my kids wear shooting glasses because of that.

Default Red Ryder BB gun

When I was twelve or thirteen I got a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Just like that Christmas movie. My dad backed the cars out of the garage and hung an old paint can from the rafters with a rope. He would start the can swinging and I and all my brothers and sisters (I had to share!) would take turns trying to hit it. It was harder than it looked and we had a lot of fun trying to hit that stupid can. We spent all Christmas day doing that until we ran out of BB's. Fond memories of a simpler time.

Hang a heavy painter's tarp or blanket against the wall, and hang targets. The blanket/tarp will stop the BB's AND prevent ricochet's.
