Where are the safest areas to live surrounding San Antonio. Living 30 minutes away would be fine, and we are looking to downsize to about 2500 sq ft. A new house would be nice, but we really know nothing about Texas. We have heard that the taxes are awful and can cause you to sometimes purchase a lessor house. Being from Oregon, I'm sure adjusting to the climate would be a challenge. Any advice would be nice..

I can tell you the pronunciation is "bernie," but that's about it.

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

That means either searches on city-data aren't archived or there aren't any safe areas in SA.

There's always the map in this thread, which discusses unsafe areas.

Tj7run,

Could you provide more information to help suggest an area? Are you retiring
or moving here to take a new job? If you are taking a new job, you will want to live close to where you work.

There are a lot of safe areas in San Antonio on the North Central and Northwest side of San Antonio. Try looking in Helotes (78023), or 78255.
The Alamo Ranch on the west side of San Antonio is booming also.

In a city of this size there are no 'safe' areas. To suggest that crime doesn't exist in a certain area does nothing but give folks a false sense of security.

Search in the forums, you'll get a pretty good idea from previous postings.

Good luck!

Smile Safe & Nice area

Depends on what you are looking for

Safety is great and understandable but it also depends on what you are willing to pay for that safety. Know that EVERYWHERE has crime and if a criminal wants it unfortunately they will take it even if your living in a SAFE area and in a Gated community even.

How close do you want to be to your job?
What brings you to San Antonio?
What type of home are you looking for?
What would you like your community to offer you?
What are you wanting to pay?
What is the bd/bath/cargarge?

We would be transfering to the area from Oregon, a job transfer. Although there is crime everywhere, there are parts of the country that are worse than others. We realize that it will be much different from Oregon, but would like an idea of what to expect. We do not have to worry about gangs or such where we live, which is outside of the Portland area. We are looking to downsize to about 2500 sq ft, at least 3 bedrooms, den, 2+ bths, two or three car garage, at least 1/2 acre lot, rv parking, possible pool, nice community, kids are in college and won't be coming. We commute a half an hour at this time, but have been told the traffic in San Antonio are is much worse. We are used to mountains, fir trees and very green surroundings. Any information about the area would be much appreciated.
