You are correct; I am back in SA for a few weeks and the Dollar General five minutes down the road sure has come in handy for basic items such as soap, toilet paper, cleaning items and even basic grocery items. It saves me the 15-20 min drive to the newer Wal-Mart on Palo Alto and IH 35, which in turn was saving me the HEADACHE/NIGHTEMARE of having to go to either of the HEB's on SW Military.

Except for a few Ice Houses that sell very basic items, I don't see the Dollar Generals affecting any other local businesses negatively in this area very much...

Keep in mind they opened a massive national distribution center on Foster Rd. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Love Dollar General. Used more so in small towns, they can be a deal if using both manufacture coupons and their store ones. They also have good receipt coupons that you can combo with your own coupons. I mostly use this for laundry soap and pay barely anything in the end. I also like their odd type gift sets. I once bought a shelving set that cost like $10 and came with assorted mounting shelves.
