I'm going to get tickets this weekend. I've seen it before, and while it's not my favorite, I know my husband will love it! What's the best way to get the tickets? Ticketmaster? Any secret for getting great seats or do you just go with "best available?"

I am, opening night! If you buy them on ticketmaster, like I did, they will charge you a significant fee. Anyway, I saw it when I was like 10 and loved it. Hope to reclaim that piece of my childhood!

It's not that I don't like Phantom. It's been a successful show for 20-some-odd years, but frankly, it's been through San Antonio multiple times already. It's become the calling card the 'Broadway' season that the Majestic and ARTS groups puts together, year after year.

Overdone, non-equity (professional), lowly shows head into the Majestic, while other, smaller, cities, get the bigger national tours. It's BS. They're brining in the cheapest **** they can find and milking San Antonio audiences into thinking they're seeing the real deal.

What I'd like to see come into town:

Wicked, Sweeney Todd (the revival staging), Jersey Boys, Color Purple, A Chorus Line, Drowsy Chaperone, My Fair Lady, Ave Q and others.

Then again, we're a city who can barely support its symphony, so what makes me believe we can support a vibrant musical theatre scene?

I know... I'm angry and pessimistic. Just a rant.

Yes...we're going on the 18th - my parents will be in town to babysit so THAT'S what's going to make the night truly special.

I've seen Phantom before but hubby hasn't....

Bought my tickets today fro The Wedding Singer! Haven't bought Phantom tickets yet, still trying to decide. I agree with BenjaminNicholas! Check out Theatre Under The Stars > HOME NEW This is in Houston and they have a great lineup for 08-09 season. Not all Broadway Across America, but still very good shows. Let us know how Phantom is!

I agree with Benjamin Nichols to some extent. I do wish that SA would get the shows he listed. I've seen several of those in NYC and they're so great.

However, SA does get some AMAZING quality productions. I've seen phantom 4 times, and the last time in SA was the best one I'd ever seen. The production of Chicago that we saw here was better than the one I saw on Broadway.

The biggest factor is whether its an equity or non-equity production. I find that the non-e productions aren't as good. The Oklahoma production that came was non-e, and quite frankly was a waste of money. My husband fell asleep. SA does get equity shows though.

Oh - one more thing. A lot of shows have stipulations in their contracts with other venues that they can only play cities within a certain radius of each other...which can tend to screw cities like San Antonio when Dallas and Houston are much more profitable tour stops.

I managed to pick up a couple of suite tickets for march 5th on ticketmaster. It's a bit of a wait to see it, but my wife should enjoy the extra bit of comfort.
