La Defense isn't even in Paris, but I understand what you mean. SA is no Paris though.

The myth that is Frost continues. Frost Bank didn't build that building. It was built by a developer as solely an office building. Frost then leased a large amount of the buildings space closing their other office. When Frost leased space the name was put on the tower. Frost had nothing to do with the development of that building, all they did was lease space. That is it.

And neither is Houston.

P.S. Who compared SA to Paris?

Saying La Defense isn't even in Paris (as to why DT SA doesn't have more buildings) is kind of comparing the two.

P.S. Who said anything about Houston?

La Defense is indeed in Paris. It's on the very fringe of what is referred to as the Historical Axis

This is from Wikipedia, but it's valid info:

"La Défense is a major business district for the city of Paris (French:"Ville de Paris"), bordering Neuilly-sur-Seine...The district is at the westernmost extremity of Paris' 10-km long Historical Axis, which starts at the Louvre in Downtown Paris and crosses the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe."

I know all this because a friend of mine from prep school had a fellowship with EPAD, the La Defense Management & Development Office.

I'm not really comparing San Antonio to Paris. The idea was to counter the notion that all great cities have a huge mass of skyscrapers at their core, which isn't true at all, especially when the city has a historical core of lowrise buildings. The Ville de Paris values their historical character, and thus decided it was more prudent to create a district for modern skyscrapers rather than allow them to become poorly integrated into the city center.

San Antonio's downtown was built on a human level. To try to change it at this late date is not only a denial of its history and charm but foolhardy and unnecessary.

Thank you!

Yeah, I posted that and I thought, I hope he doesn't think I'm being snarky rather than just Annoying Fact Corrector Girl.

There was never a comparison of the two. You really need to read things in the right perspective.

No one, I just did what you did. It gets annoying, doesn't it.

I couldn't agree with you more! Florence, Italy; has had more influence on modern thinking than any place else; it is the disputed birthplace of the renaissance, the home of Michealangelo's David; Look at Pisa; Seville; Barcelona; Malta....the only "skyscrapers" they have are cathedrals. Having big, gaudy buildings in SA does not give us character; nor does having a Ruby Tuesday's or a "Cool River".
