I have a seven-year-old son who has a learning disability and attends the public school special ed program here in NJ. We are considering a job opportunity in San Antonio and I would love to hear about people's experiences with special ed in SA. Are there certain neighborhoods or districts on which I should focus as we look for a new home? Do people feel their children's needs are being met by the available programs? How segregated are students receiving special services from their peers? Any advice, warnings or stories you want to share are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Generally, students are placed in regular ed classrooms unless their needs are such that they would not be served well by this placement. Different districts, however, may run this differently (complete co-teach, small group pullout, etc.)

I can safely say the the three top districts in the city are (in no particular order) North East ISD, Northside ISD, and Alamo Heights ISD. That covers an extremely large area of SA, and encompasses nearly 100 elementary schools. You may want to focus on an area (based on neighborhood preference and budget) to narrow it down.
