It's not a personal attack. If they're picking you out of a crowd and not checking anyone else's, then you have a right to be upset. CostCo does this too. Maybe they've had a problem with theft over there and this is a way to try and curb that. There are bigger things in life to worry about.

They've always done this. So does Sam's. Every move we make, practically everywhere, is done on camera--somebody's camera, somewhere--so I don't see the big deal in showing my receipt.

Wal Mart and Sam's and the others mentioned have done this forever. Make no mistake - they aren't doing it because of you, they are doing it because they don't trust their own employees. How hard would it be for a family member to go through the checkout and only be charged for $10.00 worth of stuff but walk out with the new wardrobe (of Wal Mart fashions)?

Not so much at the 1604/Potranco store...yesterday was the first time I have been asked, and it was because the alarm went off on my new phones. The lady there was very nice, and asked to mark down the information from my receipt...appeared to be a log book for them to keep track of WHICH CASHIER did not "detag" electronics so that the sensor would not alarm. She wrote down the item, the lane I bought at and the time.

I think that's the case for public stores since ownership of the items was transferred to you at the time of the sale, but "private" clubs like Sam's and Costco are a different story. I'm fairly certain that members sign an agreement that allows the stores to check your purchases.
A friend of mine found this out the hard way and lost her Costco membership by refusing to let them examine her cart.
