So I go to the Sea Island on I-10. As I leave and go the car, an older guy runs up. His crappy car has pulled next to the joint - not in a spot. I normally am cautious but since he is an older guy - I figure maybe he is lost.

He runs up and yells: MY WIFE IS IN THE CAR and her water just broke.

OMG! Well, this is a scam I've heard before. Thus, I say - I can't help you but I'm calling 911 for her.

Old guy runs to his car, and flies out of the parking lot and on to the access road without even looking to see if the turn was clear and blazed down toward DeZavala. Hey, guy - the hospitals are the other way! Hope you make the turn around.

Seems there are folks doing this scam. If you google it for the local area, there are pictures of the folks who try it. One looks similar to the guy I saw.

Look up the list of parking lot scams on several sources. It's well known. There are medical resources all over this area of town. Screech into UTHSC emergency and scream for help. Call 911 - better plan than an order of fried shrimp.

Also, I had this one come up to me before. 'Having a baby scam' in the Walmart Parking lot

Ranks with: I'm out of gas and need money. Same dude in Sprouts and Target lots a few weeks apart.

But you can give up some money or run into Sea Island and ask them to boil water like on Little House on the Prairie when Ma was giving birth.

If it was only legal to use a cattle prod on the parking lot leeches that try to scam you when all you want to do is grab your soda and/or pump gas.

I once had a guy ask me for gas money at a rest stop on the Idaho/Oregon border. He said he would mail it back to me when he got home. I offered to keep his dog as collateral and he drove off in a hurry.

Go to Target at the Rim today. Get my stuff and go to the car. A few spaces away, there is a white pickup. As I put the stuff away, some skinny dude gets out and starts to walk towards me. I say: What? - while he is a distance away. He starts - Sir, I am not a bum.

I say: Sorry, I can't help you.

He says: Let me ..

I reply: Sorry.

He huffs and puffs back to his car, muttering that I wouldn't listen to his story. He gets in the truck where a woman is sitting with a big Gulp. They sit there - probably waiting for a sucker.
