Wasn't it a Ferrari? Sandra Ilene West was her name.

I remember Ringo's but I don't think I ever ate there. I always imagined that they sold onion rings, along with a lot of other fast food items.

I remember when Ringo's was on Jackson Keller and Blanco, right across from the north side of Nimitz near (what was then called) the Tradewinds Apartments. And yes, the bean burgers were good. While we're crusin up Jackson Keller, how about those Friday nights at Northport Rollercade.

You got it! I Google'd it and found the following...

Quote:
In a "Deal or No Deal" sort of will, Sandra West tasked her brother-in-law, Sol West to bury her in her 1964 powder blue Ferrari 330 America.

She was to be wearing a specific outfit, either an evening gown, designer gown, or lacy nightgown and the seat was to be reclined at a "comfortable" angle. The car was to be encased in wood, steel, and concrete (they say two truckloads). In order to make this happen, Sandra's will stated that Sol would get over $2,000,000 if the wishes were carried out. If not he would get $10,000. After going to court to try and get out of it, Sol was obliged to bury his sister in law in her car. The car and Mrs. West are in a 9 foot deep hole filled with car, concrete, etc. in Alamo Masonic Cemetery at San Antonio, Texas (1801 East Commerce Street, Section 1-2).

The simple grave marker does not give a clue to what is underneath. Husband and wife are now side by side. Both died at very young ages. Ike West Jr., 1934-1968 Sandra West, 1939-1977
Might have to go check this one out as well!

Cheers! M2

Remember the creek behind Lee would flood when it rained heavily? It was really rough getting to school. The water would run into the parking lot at HEB and flood all cars at West Ave and 410 by Aggie Park. Also, remember Uncle Barneys would get flooded also. I guess it was to much for them and they moved. Does anyone remember Dunkin Donuts at Jackson Keller and West Ave? This was located in the strip mall behind Bill Millers? We would go there before school. Also, there was a Lone Star on Blanco & Jackson Keller. In case some of you do not know, La Palmita has closed within the last year. It was there for so long. The strip mall at Basse and West Ave had Handy Andy, Winns, Mr Gatti's and The Aquarium Night club ont he corner by Lamanda. I remember they used to let kids go to the club on Saturdays to dance, minus the alcohol. This was around 79'.
Here are some others I remember: Best Products on San Pedro (where North Park dealership is) Bonanza on San Pedro, Fed Mart on Vance Jackson and 410. I believe, there was also a Winns and Ice Crean shop on Vance Jackson and Freiling.
I graduated from Lee in 1980. Did anyone have Bessie Cutcher there as their English teacher? she was the coolest old lady....remember the journal you had to write in every day and turn in? All about what was going on in your life, and she would always write you little notes back.

Yep, Dunkin Donuts behind Bill Millers there on West Ave. Used to love the apple fritters. When I graduated from Lee, my first job was as a police dispatcher for Castle Hills. I remember I was working that night when West Ave and 410 flooded so bad. There were people in trees that night. and the police and fire department were going nuts trying to rescue all those people.

Yes Ringos was famous for it's bean burgers. I never ate there either, it always looked kind of dirty to me.

Boy La Palmita sure had good food. That place put a few pounds on me thru the years. Remember the other little mexican food place kind of across the road from there, but would have been on Jackson Keller, behind where Stop and Go is now? It was owned by some friends of mine, the Castillo family. They were probably there 5 or 6 years. I can't remember the name of their restaurant, but you could sit outside and eat your tacos.

How about that club just north of IH10 on West Ave. I think it was active in the 80's "Los Padrinos". It was a blues and rock club, now I think it's a used car lot or something. Had a lot of good times there on Friday and Saturday nights.

I'm not very old, but I LOVED going to the Kiddie Park at the corner of Mulberry & Broadway. My grandfather was born here in 1930 and he played there as a kid as did my dad and now, I take my son. Four generations enjoying good ole plain kiddie park happiness - it's the best and I love the simplicity of the rides!

OMG, I remember going to Rollercade every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Does anyone remember the all night skate they used to have? My dad would not let me stay. I oftened wondered how some kids (especially girls) were able to stay for it. Speaking of that location, what about the batting cages and putt putt golf center next door. I think it is still there. I went back to Rollercade a few years ago and it brought back such good memories. The only thing different was the music.
