retrocarnation is on a distinguished road
Yes, Willsatx, I remember the old theater in North Star; I went to see one of the Sinbad movies there in like '75 or '76. The restaurant by Sears in Central Park isn't as clear, though. I vaguely recall a restaurant, but I can't remember any details.
I really miss Jim's Frontier on Babcok at 410. They had THE BEST onion rings EVER. Just two doors down from Jim's Frontier was Sambo's. (I don't think any Sambo's are left in the free world.) The last time I was in town, the old Sambo's was The Old World Delicatessen. (Great Jaegerschnitzel!)
For those of you northwest side kids- anyone remember Cousin's Pizza on Bandera? The owner had a champion frisbee dog named Deeohgee. (Get it? D.O.G.) It has probably been gone 20 years, but I can still smell the fresh dough.
Anyone remember the original Mursch sporting goods building? I could stand for hours looking at the baseball gloves on the wall. Places with that much soul don't exist anymore.

3. The movie theather at Windsor Park Mall with the lit up ticket booth, thought it was cool parking in the garage.

4. The movie theater at North Star Mall?

Will post more later.
I remember people talking about the wrestling matches. There was some blonde guy that was popular at the time. I think he got hurt and was hospitalized for a while.

The restaurant near Sears -- was it Mr. Dunderbachs?

I remember the Winsor Theater. There was a popular eatery in the mall close by. It was always packed when we tried to eat there...don't remember the name, but it was worth the wait.

The movie theater at North Star was where I saw "The Sound of Music". I think it was possibly the first indoor theater I went to! I seem to remember a black and white motif with white marble and gold. Very classy.

There was a Jim's Frontier next to Sears lower level.

Does anyone remember the Mexican restaurant at North Star Mall? It was up near Luby's in the hallway leading to the back entrance by Foley's.

Oh man..that name brings back memories!! I remember thinking all these German themed restaurants that used to inhabit many a mall were all gone b/c I believe they're not around in Texas anymore. Imagine my surprise when I walked into some little po-dunk mall in Ohio while visiting my sister and what do I see next to the food court but a Mr Dunderbachs! Of course we had to eat there and I had to have a beer to go with my schnitzel.

I remember Sambo's too as a child. Of course that restaurant and its marketing ads showing a little black boy named Sambo is not PC anymore but they used to have the best pancakes with different flavored syrups sitting right there on your table. The blueberry syrup was interesting...

And irnag, for some reason, Gary DeLaune's name is still with me. I guess b/c I was scarred from all the obnoxious sportscoats he used to unleash on everyone during the 5pm sportscasts back then.

Retro, I remember Cousins Pizza...talk about good! I vaguely remember the dog. And my father and I spent a lot of time going to Mursch's there off Bandera just north of Wurzbach. I think I saw one of those Sinbad movies back then at the North Star theater as well. It always seemed to be the place that had the best movies. Didn't Colonies North have a movie theater? I seem to remember that they did but the movies never seemed quite as good as at North Star.

Colonies North did have a movie theater. At one point they used to show double features of old movies. The Marx Bros, Abbott and Costello, Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, all in black and white on the silver screen. I used to go to them when my parents went to the flea market that was there for a while. Then they closed down the movie theater back in the mid 70's, I think.

I remember Gary DeLaune also. I might not have known how to spell his name, but he was at least as memorable as Jud Ashmore.

We saw him once at [here's a nice transition] the old restaurant on San Pedro's that later became Maggie's. They closed about 2 or 3 years ago. I think it was called the Red Derby or something. I miss the Maggie's restaurant as it was in the mid 80's. They served pizza (ususual for an American menu) and had an upstairs video game room.

Somebody mentioned wrassling? How about the great Wahoo McDaniel? Tully Blanchard? There was Cowboy Scott Casey as well. Actually saw those guys in Del Rio. Was at a district golf tournament down there and we stayed across from the civic center. 940, you might recall Del Rio was/is in our district.

I remember a Burger Chef on General McMullen, kind of close to Kelly. Anyone have family that worked or did you work at Kelly? My dad did and every year we would go to the Kelly picnic and in its hey day (60-75) it was quite a sight. Lots of games and rides and everything cost a nickel.
