Default Phone Numbers

Do not continue this thread...I just wanted to answer the phone number question and put it to rest since it is off topic.

The letters come from the central offices. The phone company has names for each central office. For example in San antonio...you probably remember CA-#### for CA = Capital. Why was it done? Nobody knows....it made sense to someone that was a decision maker. Why is a phone keypad and a calculator keypad arranged opposite? Nobody knows....it sounded good to someone.

The two letters also were an indication of what area the phone number was located. When I was growing up on the South East side of town we were in the Lehigh exchange. Now those numbers are all 53 prefixes. My dad, who is 84, still has the same phone number that he had when I was born and even before that and I'm 54. We even moved once and still kept that same number. A few years ago I found an old piece of wood that was being used as a shelf support in an old house that I owned and was renovating for sale. It's original use was an end piece for a tomato crate. It has the name of a tomato distibuting company out of Houston on it with a phone number that has a 2 letter prefix and only 4 numbers. I wonder how long it's been since Houston only used six characters for phone numbers?

I think there was a Whopper burger on Bandera and Wurzbach near 4-10. I think it might be a Schlotsky's now, or at least had been the last time I was near there. It was between the McDonalds and Aunt Julie's Kitchen (now Henry's Puffy Taco). There also used to be a Sizzler near there.

Now that I think of it, does anybody remember a Cajun restaurant on Bandera, on the other side of Wurzbach? I think it was called the Bayou's. I always wondered if they were related to the Bayou's on the riverwalk (where Landry's is now). This was in the 1980's.

Default Pear Apple County Fair

Remember Pear Apple County Fair...it was an amusement park off 410 near Ingram mall. I think it is a church now? That wasn't open very long...I bet some investors lost their pants on that place. I never went to it...I heard it was a nice venue, but it was nothing but gangsters that hung out there.
