GY2020-The only place on Bandera that I remember was Tunies drive in. It was on the southwest corner of Bandera at 24th or St. Cloud.

Mudpuddle-great picture-good looking kids. I Googled the address and from memory looks like where a Lone star Ice house or Jefferson Bank are now located. Sorry, I have no memory of Thompsons

GY2020 I wonder if this was the same place as the Plantation
Green Pastures (1957)– Southwest corner Fredricksburg Road and Loop 410, now Frost bank.
Large two story home used for sock hops. DJ played records and had speakers all over the house. Upstairs had a large dance area the length of the home. Longfellow, Jefferson, Edison etc. kids made the scene.

These memories are making me think there is going to be a rumble tonight.

What I Remember
I remember My dad taking me downtown to the Aztec to catch a movie then going next door to the FUN N GAMES. On weekend we would catch the VIA VIA to San Pedro park and we could get in the pool with a Kool-Aid empty pack. On the way back we would get something to eat downtown at either Coney Island or New York Pizza. Maybe stop by at that record shop right next door New York Pizza. There was also a Boxing Gym above the Coney Island. I remember as a kid hearing the siren from the Alamo Iron Works go off at 8-12 and I think 6. I attended Bonham K-5 and lived in the area so I knew what time it was when it went off. Wow I have so many memorys.......

Funny I went to Earl Abel's a month before it closed and it looked the same way.

Tunies Drive Inn. Was that the place with the large neon vertical sign that had 2 wheels in neon that appeared to be in motion. Seemed like that sign stayed there for the longest time rusting away.

Yea, that was the sign, but by the 80's it said Bennies instead of Tunies. I Think Bennies took it over in the 60's or 70's.

mudpuddle- It hit me at daybreak. I know in the 50's and early 60's there was a liquor store named Thompsons at that location. It may have been a night club or combo club/store before.
I was too young to purchase booze. We would go to Culebra road and find a nice Mexican to purchase our booze. Nice guys. Never ripped us off nor would take any money. They knew our plight
It became a Delta Pawn shop and now a Cash America Pawn shop. The address fits.
