Back in 1963 I was working for a company called Colony House, out of Dallas. We sold crystal and silverware to young ladies for their Hope Chest. When was the last time you saw a girl with a hope chest? Anyway, one of my sales was to a young lady that lived in these apartments. Years later I had a friend that lived in those apartments. That's my closest enclounter with the LaPlaza Apts.

These apartments were directly behind PTs Old Smugglers Inn. I remember we had a family friend that lived there.

La Plaza was where one of my friends lived right out of high school (1972). It was a great place.

I think someone mentioned Ringo's earlier on this thread. He started at the corner of Hollywood and Blanco at an old Texaco gas station. We used to get our papers there to throw our paper routes. That is now the main entrance to Chris Madrid's.

After many 17 cent burgers there, he moved up on Blanco two blocks north of Fresno. I left SA for 20 years and don't know what happened then. All I know is that enjoyed many burgers and fries there.

Anyone else go to Edison in the early '70s?

Does anybody remember when the Chopsticks buffet on 4-10 was a seafood restaurant called Joe Kelly's? This is back when Lohmann's Village actually had a store called Lohmann's in it. It later became an Alcapulco Sam's before becoming the Chinese buffet.

Arrestmeblack is the terminology I used after getting arrested

but the Waffle House, I believe you are speaking of The Siesta.
Some real good stories about that place.
Usta be 24 hours, so you can imagine.

Those Jim's burgers, I think they were "charcoal broiled".

Of all the Jim's Drive Inns,
I think the one there at Fred Rd and Club was my favorite.

Mr. M's, I remember the name,
but after awhile, all the so called "convenience" stores
have blended together in my little pea brain.
Ice Houses I remember better.
Mama Mia's was a good one here in Balcones.

Remember DellView?? yeah.
Grew up near there from 57-65 or so.
I knew the old woman who sold her farm to Morris Jaffe
so he could build all those homes.
I think the story goes that that is where he made his second million.
First was the commissary at Lackland AFB.

She really could tell some great stories about horse back riding
all over the San Antonio area in the early 1900s.
The old Farmhouse was moved down Blanco Road,
a few blox north of Edison High School.

Since you brag that you were not from this area,
were did you roost??

I have to add "deforkinglicious" to my vocabulary along with arrestmeblack!I didn't know that the Waffle House was associated with the Siesta. I have not heard any stories. Which came first... Northwest Plaza or Wonderland? I prefered the lemonade but the limeade was good too. The Church's Chicken was better back then too. We lived in the Jefferson area when I was a toodler and moved to BLANK in the mid 50's. My mother used to shop downtown, then Fred Rd and Northwest Plaza until Wonderland Mall opened. I didn't know that Jaffe bought that land. Which neighborhood did he build? What is that house they moved to Blanco now? Morris Jaffe built North Star Mall... right? I met MJ once when he already had prostate ca. He seemed like a very nice man.

cent, I'm not so sure about your placement on the Ringo's locations,
but, you may very well be right on.

I'll ask Chris Madrid about that particular one,
I grew up with Chris.

Ringo's story is really a sad one,
too long for right this minute,
his son..................

Ringo's last location was at West Ave and??,
about three blox south of Basse Rd.

They retired 4-5 years ago.
Great Folks - he and his wife and associates.

Great burgers too.
