Remember Don Couser's SWING TIME dance show on Saturday's? He was a DJ at KONO.

What was the teendance show that Bruce Hathaway hosted on Saturday mornings? Teen Time??

And who else remembers B. Baily Brown and his Yum Yum Tree on KONO? You could call in and have your science teacher, ex boyfriend etc fed to the Yum Yum Tree complete with sound effects and a stupendous belch.

Thumbs down DQ shudder......

I used to work at a Dairy Queen on Fredericksburg Road. Not sure if the bldg is still there but it was located next door to Wickers or Wicks - now known as the HEB headquarters. This DQ was owned by a husband/wife team. The DQ was her business and his business was pumping septic tanks. And YES.............he parked his nasty truck out back, came in and would start making hamburgers during the lunch rush. His name was Tommy, her name was Patricia. This was back in the 60's and there was a field behind the DQ that had lots of rats that seem to find their way inside the place. And YES.......they'd trim off the nibbled buns and serve them. Rats also managed to get into the freezer and we'd find them floating in the ice cream mix. IF I ever ate there I made sure it was something frozen or something that just arrived FRESH. I'm sure this is more information than you'd care to know but it's absolutely TRUE! I made $1.25/hr because I was experienced. Everyone else made $1.00/hr. They said I was experienced because I had worked at the DQ on Blanco Road @ LaManda? Not sure of that street name - which is now a Mexican Food Restaurant.

Wicks? Was that a lumber company? I remember the sign with one half of the W blue and the other half red. I know HEB headquarters is at the Arsenal. The only thing I can think of that is HEB on Fredericksburg is the Training Center. Is that what you are talking about? I remember it used to be a Paul Anderson (Office Supplies/Furniture) and a Mickey Finns (bar).

I went to La Bare once and it was in that strip across from Central Park Mall on San Pedro (I think there was a La Ferria there) and now I think there is a Starbuck's in the same strip. I can't recall the intersecting street at the moment but it is the main street that runs behind Central Park and North Star Mall. Anyhoo... it was fun actually and one of the guys liked me but I never went back because it really wasn't for me. I remember thinking that men actually put on a better show than female dancers... alot more energy... that kinda annoyed me that men could even do what has been known to be a womens domain better. I went many years later to "Wild Zebra" with some other females just for the heck of it and I found it emasculating for a man to be dancing in his underwear... was not very manly. That was the extent of my experience and think I can live without anymore of those experiences. LOL
