Speaking of KEXL, wasn't there also a KXZL at some point? Didn't they pronounce it like "Kexzyl"?

Before it was KEXL it was KITE. It was a classical station. The NOW SOUNDS program came on late at night and played modern Rock music.

Yup, it must have been KITE.
OzzyRules, yes, after KEXL's demise, there was a KXZL, but I think they were standard rock like KTFM.

Algo Diferente (The Castle)
I lived in Shenandoah from 68 to 70 until we moved to our big fancy house in Whispering Oaks.
Hanging out at Algo Diferente (we called it The Castle) was pretty common for kids on that side of town. Started out exploring this in our mini-bikes, then later, the golf course was a really popular motorcycle track with big jumps and lots of racing.
Anyone call it The Castle?

I am glad that someone else remembers that. Wasn't Mike Love the DJ?

In the early sixties my uncle bought some property on Vance Jackson road between Wurzbach and Huebner. From the back of his property you could see Algo Diferente. It was majestic and mysterious sitting on top of a hill all by itself. I never knew the real name until I found this site. We just called it the Castle. We always wanted to hike out to it but my parents said it was too far to hike to. We also heard it was a dangerous place because it was full of HOBO's!

Jay P had mentioned that Alan passed away recently. Alan was a DJ at KISS for a while after the KEXL days while Joe Anthony was still around. I was at the studio one day and had not seen him since the 104.5 days. He was a great DJ.
