I think WPM by 1990 was in a big decline, very sad from the glory days of the late 70's and 80's.

Sea Island
Sea Island just expanded in last 3or4 years. Now there's one at I-35 and SE Military DR. I think the one on Rector is still open. Still great seafood! Yes they did own the Manhatton Cafe across from the Majestic Theater.
When I was a kid we would see a movie at the Majestic then cross the street to the Manhatton. We always went up to the balcony . My dad always got stuffed crab. Those were the days!

Was Woolworths the one that had a monkey and tropical fish and such?

Mr. Dunderbach's was the first to have the original Haribos Gummi Bears. Those riots lasted about 5 days. The girl that got her arms wrapped around the flag pole and her ribs broken lived on Nash Blvd on my block. I remember Mr. Price, the black principal and Mr. Mayhan, the head pricipal, being surrounded in the street, and I dont remember seeing one SAPD car.

I remember WPM opening was a big deal. It was the first completely brand new mall. NSM was always considered a Frankenstein mall...that was a bunch of different parts bubble gummed and bailing wired together. I remember walking around WPM for the first time and thinking this is so much more fancier than NSM! I remember lots of brown tones and wood. They also had this new place to eat called "Chick-fil-a", but I wast still always loyal to my favorite: Arbys.
I remember seeing a movie there a very long time ago...called Ameri-thon....It took place in the near future and John ritter was president and America was bankrupt and the country had completely run out of gas.

I couldn't remember the movie so I googled it. Amerithon came out in 1979 when I was the Mom of 2 toddlers so I rarely had the energy for movies! This was when we bought gas on odd-even days in California (and I assume the rest of the nation). Reading the headlines of the Washington Post this morning sure reminded me of news 30 years ago.
