What time period we talking about? That could be the location I'm speaking of. A & W root beer was there late 50's early 60's.

My grandparents moved to Jennings St. in 1967, so mid-late '60's.

Do you remember Serma's Bakery? How about Seberas Plumbing and Appliances? I ran around over there some. Late 60's or early 70's we would play basketball in Palm Heights Baptist Church Gym.

Oh YES!!! Surma's had the BEST Sugar Cookies...then we'd go down a couple of doors to the Winn Store. I also recall Seberas. Do you remember when the Bill Miller BBQ was built on Zarzamora and Malone? When it first opened they had hamburgers. On Sundays after church my grandparents would send me down on my bike for a bag of burgers ( 6 for $1.95) family order of fries, and a gallon of sweet tea. Good memories.

Those were probably chopped barbecue on the buns you were getting . Don't think Bill Millers ever sold hamburgers. Sermas had the best eclairs anywhere I loved them.

No they were hamburgers. Chopped BBQ was also on the menu. That's what made it so strange. A few years ago I was in Austin and stopped at the Bill Miller on I-35 & Ben White...they were selling Hamburgers!..just like the olden days.

That I can't tell you...I haven't been on that side of town in probably 10 years. I think ...with all these recollections I just may make a trip back to the old neighborhood and look at the changes. I'm afraid I may not like what I find though.

I've basically lived in Harlandale area most of my life. 7-8 years I lived out Zarzamora south of Military Drive. It's probably close to the way you remember it . With a few changes of course.
