The Tee Pee was fun when you actually saw the Indian out on his horse. There was also a racetrack near there (something speedway.) Dan Cook's Time Out was on Austin Hwy. same side & just a little way down from Bun-n-Barrel (still has good chopped bar-b-Q.)
Just off Austin Hwy., near Harry Wurbach, was Big John's Steak House. This was owned by the actor that was in several John Wayne movies.
(MacClintock- played the father that Patrick Wayne tried to punch.)

Yes, and it was kind of outdoorsy in it's younger days. Think there's a photo on the forums list next to this thread. Think that's where it was.

When did Lone Star Ice Houses cease to exist? Were they bought out by U-Totem?
What year did Sommers Drug sell to Eckerds? In 1970-71, there was still a Sommers with a fountain, on the Drag in Austin. I also saw JFK on Broadway the day before his assassination. Just a few feet away. When did Fritos buy Facs? My last Battle of Flowers parade? Heard the shots, drove down Alamo to a friends.

Lone Star was bought out by E-Z Mart, say maybe 10 years ago or so.

U Oil It's. Industrial Lubricants bought out Lone Stars on our side of town.
Did you know the story of how Fritos were discovered here in S.A?

Wasn't Fritos started in a house down on Roosevelt street or something? Don't know any real details about it, except it was bought out and taken to Dallas. Understand Fritos could and should have stayed in S.A. but local shortsightedness messed it up.

Hey Buddy, Roosevelt or Presa I forget. A man that lived across the street from a little cafe found a man there cooking the corn chips. The man wanted to go back to Mexico so the guy gave him the recipe for a hundred bucks.
Think this was just a little north of Steves. I think it was a house not a cafe.
