Pat & Gladys Coffee Shop ( Goliad & Military )
The bakery @ McCreeless and those Gingerbread men in the clear bags

Pat & Gladys, was that the coffee shop that was next to the old Spartan Atlantic? The name sounds so familiar. My dad loved to go to that coffee shop and the one that was in McCreeless Mall, on the Penney's side. He would roost in there and drink coffee while my mom and I shopped.
And who could forget those gingerbread men. I always wanted one, but never got one.

Dellcrest Mall & Original Bill Millers
Here's what I remember about the old Dellcrest Plaza (W.W.White & Rigsby) from north to south
Sears, later a Peter Piper
Moore's Hardware ( my first pocket knife )
Winns ( lots of Hot Wheels )
Pages Fabric Store
Record Rendevous
Don's & Ben's
a hair salon
a bank
Handy Andy
Fox photo hut out in the parking lot.
The original Bill Millers was at Goliad @ Clark Ave.
My dad told me that when they first opened they offered fried fish
on Fridays. Does anyone remember that ?

[quote=jg1208;5445947]Here are some more GBNF that came to mind.
Everybody leaving Jim's Frontier on Goliad to go drag race on IH-37.
Before it was Jim's it was The Flame, and we'd go race on the road to United Gas near beautiful Mitchel Lake, and try to avoid Sheriff Metheny and his partner Officer LaFrance.
Now Jim's is a chinese drive-in (honest) and I don't know where you'd race.
I'll be back for the Highland's class of '60 50th reunion in a couple of years, and probably won't be able to find my way around anymore. But I'll try.

Back in the day!
Before it was Jim's it was The Flame, and we'd go race on the road to United Gas near beautiful Mitchel Lake, and try to avoid Sheriff Metheny and his partner Officer LaFrance.
Jim's was on Goliad at Lasses, The Flame was on Military Drive. United Gas..Mission Pet? on S Presa. Mitchell Lake off Old Pleasanton Road. Was this Sheriff Metheny kin to the well known Metheny Brothers of Country music local talent.
Now Jim's is a chinese drive-in (honest) and I don't know where you'd race.
Know Jim's building is still there but don't know what occupies it!

No, it was maybe two or three stores from Penney's, on the west side of the mall. I think it was next to a shoe store, but my memory is fading.

There was lots of racing all over back then but United Gas and Mitchell Lake were miles apart. There was a police Capt. Pat Matheny who lived on New Braunfels Ave. across from Poe Jr.Hi who may have been related to the deputy you're recalling. Btw, a while back someone mentioned buying ice cold watermelons and that reminds me to ask if anyone remembers Orville's Drive In down on S. Presa near Brackenridge HS? During summertime they sold watermelon by the slice, two bits a piece as I recall, and it was always the sweetest you could find just about anywhere. You could take it away or sit in Orville's small pea gravel & picnic table area and eat while spitting seeds on the ground or at each other. All their melons came from Cheicaster way out on Sulphur Springs Road in far east Bexar County past East Central. Orville's sat between Presa and S. St. Mary's so you could drive thru from either street for their burgers & shakes, etc. or cold sliced watermelon in the summer. Dang it was good!

I'm not finished reading yet, but...
Here are some things I remember (I am 31).
Walgreen's was in North Star mall at least when I was in high school and maybe even in college...I think J. Crew is there now. My uncle worked at Joske's at North Star for his first job out of college (1984). I remember Frost Bros. closing. When my friends and I were old enough to drive, we went to North Star Mall ALL THE TIME. I mean at least once a week. That was IT for us in high school. Loved eating at Houlihan's.
I didn't know that Burger King wasn't allowed in SA, but I do remember when they started opening. There was a Carl's Jr. on Pat Booker that became a BK. I remember loving Carl's Jr.
BEST products on San Pedro, Maggies, Old San Francisco Steakhouse.
My dad always got his suits and stuff at Satel's in Central Park Mall. I always thought that it was the strangest mall. It had carpet!
I have very vague recollections of Swensen's and People's Restaurant. I LOVE Swensen's. There was one in College Station all through my years at A&M. I think it's closed now.
My dad and stepmom moved to Shavano Park in about 1994. That area has changed so much even since then...I can't imagine what it would have been like before.
Speed trap in Selma! Definitely. Grew up in Universal City.
That's all for now but I am sure there's more.
