I remember that there was a restaurant called "My Place" originally. They had a great build it yourself sandwich bar. It later became Nevada Bobs Golf Store.

I'm 59 and grew up just south of the downtown area. There used to be an old amusement park across the street from the old Mission Stadium at Mitchell and Mission Rds. There was also a Catholic Seminary at that intersection.
The amusement park was adjacent to a small baseball field on the NW corner across from Mission Stadium. It was abandoned in the late 50's, as I remember playing there with other kids. Everything was left in place and literally abandoned. The rides were left intact and they just rusted away over time.
I think it was called Riverside or Riverview park. Anyone remember this place?
Thanks!

Yep I do!! I've written about this in this thread! You'd have to look back to find it!! But , basically far as I can tell two business partners split. One opened Playland Park the other opened that Park on Mission which I'm pretty sure was River View Park. Apparently it was poorly run and sort of shady! I'd been in there a few times over the years!! Eerie !!

In the corner of that shopping center was a restaurant/club owned by a friend of mine's father. I believe it was called "My Place". My brother's band played there back in the 70s.
Martini's was (and still is, I think) in the strip center at Rector/McCullough.

I'm sure I asked about this restaurant some time ago, but I thought I'd try again. In the 70's there was a steak house called "The Four Seasons" (I believe). Absolutely NOTHING fabulous about this place....except I went on my first date out to dinner there. I cannot begin to remember where it was....somewhere near North downtown. I'm sure it wasn't memory maker for too many....just trying to figure out the location. It was so romantic that it had disposable paper table cloths and florescent lighting! But hey...it was high school....and my date was ADORABLE!

There was a place on Brooklyn right about where Augusta intersects called Four Brothers Steak House. I never ate there myself, though, so I can't say whether it is the place you were thinking of based on your description of the amenities contained within.

Thanks!!....I'll search this thread for your earlier post. Now that you mention it being "shady", I do recall that when my playmates and I visited, we were chased out of there by some strange folks. There were a couple of old rickety trailers in the back amid some overgrown brush. Some Ma & Pa Kettle type people came out and screamed at us to get the hell out of there.
"Eerie" is a perfect description of that place. Gotta admit, I always got the creeps going in there as a kid. Thanks again for the info.

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned to satx56, that place gave me the creeps when visiting with playmates. Yeah, I can just imagine what it was like when it was open. Probably wasn't a place for the timid to visit. Thanks again!

If you're talking about the Chinese place (John L's) on Nogalitos which was also a mom & pop grocery, I remember it well. I grew up a couple of blocks away. There were a bunch of Chinese grocery stores back in the 50's/60's in that area. Hmmmm....I remember all (most, anyway) Chinese grocery store owners back then also drove either black or green Buicks. Never quite understood that. Buick must've been some kind of status symbol or they just plain liked those big tanks.
