DGarcia - if you're into wrestling, are your familiar with River City Wrestling? www.rivercitywrestling.net.

I'm not a wrestling fan, but I know someone involved in it, so I thought I'd pass the word along.

"Chicken Haven... the best onion rings around!"

Hey boyson, do you reeeally think CH's onion rings were better than Buddy's? I thought Buddy's was the very best. I guess I was biased since I worked at Buddy's as did several of my sisters. So when did you grow up over there? My sister Pat was the manager for many years and I carhopped there from the summer of '65 til fall of '67 then I worked at the one on Fredericksburg Road til I graduated high school in '69. That one stood between a trailer park and later a Shakey's Pizza was build on the other side. Of course, Shakey's no longer exists any where in town.
...And Nix, Oh, and how well I remember Houston St. and Hemisfair '68.

I miss beef fajitas from Fajita Junction. Its Alamo Pizza now (Fredricksburg and Zarzamora). Sure, it was a chain-like place but those tacos fed me before I went to school at Woodlawn Elem.

I'm surprised no one else remembers the Christmas store in the Central Park Mall cave.

Default Mr T's Hamburgers

Back in the middle 1960's, my Dad & I would drive every Tuesday night to Mr. T's Hamburger Stand on New Braunfels street by Fort Sam Houston. We lived at Nolan & Pine street and we would drive down Nolan to New Braunfels. All the icehouses and the service stations on New Braunfels would be busy. Service stations like Sun Glo, Humble & Texaco advertised a gallon of gas for only 29.9 cents. My favorite part of the drive was going over the long rickety old 2 lane train bridge. Down below you could see all the different locomotives, boxcars & cabooses.

Mr. T's Hamburgers was a walk up stand with a large parking lot. You would order the burgers and wait outside under the small awning as they prepared your order.

Tuesday night were special nights, burgers were only 15 cents! I would order 10 burgers to take home. Being a loyal customer, the cashier, a jolly mustachioed man, would sneak me a complimentary small Coke as I waited for the burgers. His act of kindness made me feel special.

Looking through the window I could see the cook flipping the burgers on the stainless steel grill, place the cooked patties on the bun, carefully position a slice of pickle, pick up the aluminum pitcher with a open bottom and squirt some special sauce.

I would securely hold the bag of hot hamburgers on the ride home. Once home, Mom would doctor them up with fresh slices of onions, tomato & lettuce. We had a feast!

Wednesdays were special at St Michael's School for lunch, out of my brown bag came a Mr. T's hamburger!

Still see Pizza Inns in Huntsville Alabama. Didn't stop to see if they taste like I remember, but it brought back fond memories of the one on SW Military Drive.
