Willsatx....Lionel's Playworld must have been there around 1981 or 1982 (my memory is fading).
I remember the Handy Dan at the front with the Albertsons in the back.

I looked at Google Earth and it it looks like they filled in the pools because it's green where they were....probably for safety reasons - didn't want a large "skate park" The lake was horse shoe-shaped and wrapped around the pools. There was a concrete grandstand (still visible on the pic).....they had water shows on the lake at one time and private parties on the Buckhorn grounds.
Thanks. Actually, it's been so long I don't even know exactly where it was. I know it's off of St Mary's near that little park. I think you turn right (going south on St M) on the little road before the park. But which side of that road was it on?

Man i can close my eyes after reading these post and see and hear what you guys are describing. I so well remember walking around these places and i have done so many Google Earths and Live Searchs and see that so much has changed. Took a Google Earth drive out I 10. Now that just blows my mind how much that has built up, DeZavala used to be the line of civilization. Going west on 10 after DeZavala was 2 lanes of nothing and more of it.

Default Highland Hills Memories

The Taco Hut was the best! My best friend & I would mow the lawn for my mom and she would give us money to bring back home food from Taco Hut! Boy, it was sure good. We all loved those great guacamole cups - anyone remember them? I think the reason they moved to Hot Wells in later years was because the Albertson's was built; now Albertson's is closed.

I think the drive-in across from where Floyd's still is was called the ParkAir - I went there with my family in the summer. There was a Ben Franklin's next to the Highland Hills Pharmacy and seems like a fabric store was in that area too. I also remember the Model Market and the Leeds Dept. Store where I got a new swimsuit every year. LOL!

Boy, what memories: that area was like a small town; seems like you knew everyone.

Brings back fond memories - I loved Hemisfair: my husband & I were dating then and spent a lot of fun times there. During that time I remember sitting in my dentist's chair in the old Medical Arts Bldg. and seeing rooms being put in the Palacio Del Rio Hotel! I also remember seeing the Tower gradually moving up week by week-so exciting

I remember in the early 80's I always thought there was no life out there.

I was wondering if anyone had any interior pics of Joske's downtown, or any of the malls in the 80's. Saw the windsor one that were awesome awhile back on here.
