I remember that restaurant on San Pedro. It seems to me that it was in the same area that the old Globe store was. We ate there a couple of times and I remember telling my dad that sonce they served corn fed steaks that is why the TBones tasted like corn. My folks likes Lubys better. I remember when Jay opened...thought Holmes opened in '66, but could be wrong on that one. The northwest side was the boondocks back then!
When I was a kid, we considered the Jefferson area "northside" and thus "elite". Marshall was where the country kids went, since they still had FFA!
I haven't lived in SA since '84, although family is still there. Hard to believe that some areas we considered upscale have gone down.
I remember having to go to Broadway to eat at what we considered a "fancy" restaurant!

I could be off a year or so for Holmes too..anyway, yea, boondocks is a good word for the northwest side back then. Marshall was always the "kicker" school because of the FFA and Ag which was at Marshall until O'Connor High opened in Helotes and now I think it has the FFA chapter.
And I'm glad this thread has been so well-received...there's many of us out there with long memories of good times growing up in SA and this thread only proves it!! Let's keep it going as long as we can...
