It was the old Gulfmart building. It didn't open until mid 1980 though. I know the southside store was open previously because I had to go there for a week of training with the scanners.

I wasn't aware there were any other stores with scanners prior to the 1980. I always was under the impression Consumer's was the first.

Fedmart was further up 410 @ Vance Jackson (I worked there too right after high school.)

What about Centeno's Grocery store...I have vary little memory of those. I think it was the Fiesta Grocery store of our time. Though, I think Fiesta and Handy Andy are on their last legs.

Handy Andy's been on there last legs for many years. Going in one is like stopping at an ice house . Their prices are ridiculus! There both raunchy little stores in my book. At least Handy Andy hasn't always been that way.

The Centenos on Commercial ( I believe the first and main store ) was more like a mini mall inside at least towards the end.

I remember the one at Vance Jackson and 410. Remember it as a Gulf Mart. The only Fed Mart I knew of or remember was the one at Military and Zarzamora. 1970's 100 octane gas . Don't recall how much But CHEAP!

I don't remember 100 octane. WOW! I do remember switching gas stations while at UT because the Shamrock went from 30 to 31 cents a gallon! The nerve!

I could be wrong. It's possible that Magnamart opened in 1980, but it couldn't have been any later than that.

I was thinking probably 29 dents or so in 71' 72'. Before the first gas pinch.
As a kid I remember 14 , 16 ,17cents a Gallon. Had an old Sigmor Shamrock on each end of our street. Valero now after Diamond Shamrock . Tom Turner used to own them . Think he owned KBUC Radio. Lived in big house off Nacogdoches outside 410. Swans out in the front yard WOW!

I know the gas increase from 30 to 31 cents was while my husband still lived in the Navy ROTC (Crow's Nest) house on 24th. We married in April and he graduated in December of '73 so it may have been late '72 or early '73. I do know it was up to 70 cents a gallon when we reached Boston in early '74.

We were nearly out of gas and lost. There were black covers on all the gas pumps (signifying out of gas) for miles. We stopped at one station to get directions and the owner saw my husband get out of the car wearing his Navy uniform. He ran over, removed the cover, and filled our tank! He kept thanking Steve for serving.
