Great post about the satellite images showing the old Basse road route. If you look at Bitters Rd East of the airport where it dead ends into Wetmore, you can see the same thing....where Bitters used to cut across that end of the airport. I'm totally addicted to satellite mapping!

One that is really neat are the two roads that led to the little communities I mentioned that are now under Canyon Lake. From the satellite images you can see the roads disappear under the water where it's shallow along the shore. It's kind of creepy actually.
Yep.. I remember Basse running straight into Tuxedo where the cul-de-sac is now. There was a long chain link fence along the north side of Tuxdeo with signs warning about blasting from the quarry.

He does North Park Lincoln and Satel's commercials.

The Austin Hi-way TeePee ended its history as a steakhouse and a dang good one. I took a date there once in 1973 and ordered chateaubriand not knowing what it was but hearing it on TV or in movies. It turned out to be the best piece of beef I had ever tasted as it is actually the tenderloin. One large steak surrounded with extruded mashed potatoes came to the table so the young lady and I enjoyed a bit of meat you could eat with a spoon. That's my TeePee story except to mention there was another one on Fredericksberg Rd. I believe. And the old motels could be found on any of the main roads into SA like 81, 281, 87, 90, etc. or to put it another way, S. Presa, Roosevelt, Rigsby, E. Houston St. W. Commerce, San Pedro, Nogalitos/Laredo Rd., etc.
