lol, yeah I used to rent crazy old grindhouse-type films like The Exterminator, Night of the Creeps and 1990: The Bronx Warriors. Of course, I told my mom they were PG, and I'd wait until she went to sleep, then watch them in our huge-ass VCR that looked like an air conditioning unit.

It's so weird to think about Waldenbooks and B. Daltons, because that was before we had gigantic bookstores like Barnes & Noble, Bookstop, etc. We'd get our magazines there or at Albertsons, and get our comics over at The Dungeon. I had a huge collection of Black Belt, Inside Karate, Inside Kung Fu and Ninja Magazines, and my brother used to read Soldier of Fortune, SWAT and Guns & Ammo magazines. Yeah we were a weird pair.

It was so weird when we moved to Houston in 1990, and there were no Albertsons around. We had Krogers and HEB up here, but instead of Albertsons we had Randalls. Now most of those are gone, too.

I like reading this stuff. I remember why I liked going to the mall. It was good cheap fun! The malls are all different now. The cheapest thing you can get is some candy or a pretzel and even that costs almost five dollars. Nothing is cheap any more.

Default Where'd I go to school?

Let's see...

Elementary - Oak Grove (1976-1982)
Middle - Garner (1982-1985)
High School - MacArthur (old campus, 1985-1989)

The new Mac campus is nice but I sure miss the charm of the old one. Nothing like trying to get from one side of campus to the other in 8 minutes in the rain with few covered routes. Of course, 50 years ago it was two campuses (Northeast High and Northeast Jr. High) next to each other before Garner was built in 1962 and both campuses were merged to make one big Mac.

As for my wife:

Elementary - John Glenn
Middle - Pease
High School - John Jay, Class of 1987

Gone but not forgotten?.......The Victoria Courts.....No just kidding. I miss Fargo's Pizza which was located at Callaghan and Culebra. I also miss the Mission Drive In.It was sad to see it all tagged up in its last years.

Wow! Target closed? When did that happen? My DH grew up in that area and we married & lived off of Walzem/FM 78 from 1988-1990. There wasn't much to WPM even then. I usually opted to drive all the way to Rolling Oaks after it opened, but I assumed Target was still around.

My schools:

Colonies North Elementary
Wm. P. Hobby Middle School
John Marshall High School '79

Default Kate Schenck carnival

Looked forward to that carnival every year. I attended KS elementary from 63 to 69 and we were the last class to attend "junior high" at the 9th grade level and then as we entered "senior high" we drug the first class of freshman with us from Harry Rogers to Highlands high.

Yes we did! I think they also closed Wheatley High that year and bussed in at least half of the displaced students. Were you there when we had the big riot in the cafeteria and they had to close the school? Scarey times back then.

We used to get dropped off at McCreless on Saturdays to go to the movies and just hang out. The Woolworth's had this red mccaw in the pet section that we always wondered if it was ever going to be bought. I think the bird was still there when they closed the store! There used to be a bakery in the mall, too. It was next to the Toy Box, I think. I seem to recall a Mr. Dunderbachs, too, was down near Penney's. We'd get one of those dill pickles from the jar and wander around window shopping.
