Thank you all! I hope more San Antonio businesses catch on to allowing dogs. There are some great places in Austin and DFW that I would love to see here too.

I think more (most?) businesses with patios would like to allow dogs, but the city has restrictions. For example, I was talking to someone at Frank (the new-ish hot dog place in the old church on Alamo St. in southtown) who said they couldn't get a permit for dogs because the entire patio area is paved. I got the impression that it's a hygiene issue -- if a dog pees or poops on the pavement, it's too hard to clean up. Whereas places with unpaved surfaces in the patio (dirt or crushed gravel or whatever) are okay, maybe because the waste will absorb into the ground when it rains. Dunno exactly, but something like that.

He probably wanted to portray that "tough guy" image...smh

We are a dog family, but I don't agree with allowing dogs in any establishment that serves food...but that's just me. Just because the management and staff are "pet friendly" doesn't necessarily mean your intended customers are.

We took our pooch to Tom Slick dog park last weekend and I have to say, I was disappointed. Not in the park, but in the people! PLEASE don't take your unsocialized, bad-mannered pit bull to a dog park and let it attack other dogs constantly! UGH.

Hoping that was a one time event. That park is closer to where we will be living, but I'm wondering if I'll find a better crowd at McAllister Park (my old side of town)?

Would any of you consider taking your dog to church services?

The bigger question is why would you want to do that? (unless it is a service dog)

A woman that comes to our church insists on bringing her lap dog. We have told her she is more than welcome but to please come without the dog. She got very upset.

Reviving this to add that the Container Store is dog friendly!

We took our pup there a couple weekends ago and everyone loved him. It was fun for him to go somewhere different. Highly recommend.
