Smile Edge Falls

http://www.edgefalls.com/Falls%20pictures/Mainfalls.jpg

This was probably my favorite swimming hole. We used to sit at the
top and ride over the falls. That was a lot of fun ! Those were the days.

It was discussed in the GBNF thread, such as here. We drove out there to check it out but there are so many 'no Trespassing' signs that we didn't think it was a good idea to venture far off the road. However, from the little bridge that crosses over it upstream, it looked pretty cool! Wish we could've seen more!

Cheers! M2

Edge Falls was a great place to go. I jumped off of the cliff once and only once. I landed on my back. Somebody drug me up to the beach area and I just layed there until I could get up and walk. Missed work the next day because of it. MD 20-20 will make you do courageous yet stupid things. I never did that again though. It was probably things like that, that convinced them to close it up before they got sued. Can you imagine having that place on your private property?

It is up near Kendalia, just off of FM 3351 north-northeast of Bergheim. Just go to Google maps and type in "Edge Falls Road, TX" and it will put you close...it is just west of the seam of the two images (you'll know what I am talking about when you zoom in on the imagery).

Or, just copy and paste these coords: 29.912867, -98.505848

Cheers! M2

We used to swim at this place about 10 years ago. It was awesome! I know what you mean by sore the next day! We, too, reaped the consequences of that crazy high cliff jump more than once!

Back around 1975 a biker group thought it was a clever idea to ride their bikes over the falls. Insurance companies put a brake on after that incident. I went there many times from the mid 1950' up to 1974. I miss the place.

Sorry about the quality, but they were shot years ago and have faded over the years.

Wow-what great pics! Thanks! I think we went as teenagers, early 70s with older brothers, but dont remember much. We went more often to Stinky Falls in NB before they cemented in the pits. You would jump in the water pit and the only way out was to swim under the concrete wall-yeah we were crazy!

Stinky Falls, I remember going there as a teenager in the same time frame. Those pits were really a rush. Swimming thru the tube to get out only to find someones butt in the way. Talk about panic. I loved that place though. We got caught for minor in possesion of alcohol there once. The cops confiscated my ice chest and fined us. We never did get the ice chest back.
