I am not sure that this is the Kerville specific information you are looking for, but a GREAT source for campgrounds all around Texas. Sounds from you question like you might find something to suit your needs here.
Texas Campgrounds
Hope this helps!

Don't know of any gated areas in Kerrville (parents live there) only certain private homes when they have some land but no Condo units. Now I have heard they are going to make the old hospital once the new one opens into a nice nice hotel and some luxury units on the top 2 or 3 floors meant to be lived in by older folks. Even the country clubs in the area are not gated just really not done in Kerrville. There are plenty of trailer parks and some very nice rv parks but once again not gated. Winter Texas usually go futher south than Kerrville.

Lots of retirement options in kerrville
I'm sorry to say this but I have no idea what the people who responded to you are talking about. There ARE condos and there ARE mobile home Parks...more than a few infact.
Kerrville Convention and Visitors Bureau
Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce Information Page
Fly to San Antonio some weekend, rent a car and go explore Kerrville and itss surrounding areas. It's a town of about 40,000 or so and Ingram, Hunt and Fredericksburg are close by. Spend time driving around. That's how you'll find your nook. Since it is a retirement town and is smaller, a lot of information may not be on the internet. That's where feeling your way around will be great! Remember a chamber of commerce and a visitors' bureau both are funded and sustained by local businesses...so you may or may not get the complete picture. While you're there, you can also pick up local papers and check the ads. I don't think their paper is online yet but I could be wrong about that.

There are tons of retirement communities here in Kerrville, it is a retirement community! I love it, we moved here from California about a year ago and I couldn't ask for anything more.

Actually, Kerrville proper is about 25,000, although the Kerr county population ("Greater Kerrville", if you will) is close to 50k.
I lived there during high school, and my parents still live there. As far as condos go, I know of one development along Guadalupe Street.

They're also building some townhomes near where my folks live along Singing Wind Dr, and a San Antonio developer is planning to redevelop the soon-to-be-vacated downtown hospital at Sidney Baker and Main into condos and retail.

When did you attend high school? I was born and raised in Kerrville, come back once in awhile to visit my dad and some friends, I miss living there, but have found my place in FL for now.

I'm very familiar with Kerrville. If you are looking for a gated community because of safety then you really don't need a gated community. Kerrville is very safe.
As far as condos, the Inn of the Hills has Condos that it rents and also sells through a realtor. I can't remember the realtor's name but if you call the Inn of the Hills they will give you the number. These condos are not gated but in a very safe location and across the street from the Guadalupe River.

There are a few popular RV parks. One is By The River.

Another is Guadalupe River RV Park

If you are looking for one further out of town but with a really nice set up, try Buckhorn Lake Resort.

From everyone I've talked to that have stayed in these RV parks, the Buckhorn is the one that everyone seems to really like. The only drawback is that it's a few miles from town. But it's off I-10 and easy to travel. The By The River Park is also out of town and the road is kind of windy.
