Default Best Western "Atria" to debut in West San Antonio.

San Antonio set to gain new Best Western hotel concept - San Antonio Business Journal:
  • The new 100-room hotel is being built in Westside Peak development.
  • Described as "upper mid-class" designed to have the feel of a loft.
  • Second Atria hotel (along with another regular Best Western) also coming (location undisclosed) by same owner/developer.

That name is awfully close to the name of the tobacco company Altria. Maybe all of the rooms here will be smoking rooms?

Actually, the Atria name is an internal name for the prototype of an upper-midscale Best Western. The concept is Best Western's answer to compete against Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn and La Quinta, among others.
The idea is that it allows the hotel to charge a higher rate and it will offer a higher class of amenities than your regular Best Western.

However, it is not a new brand. It should be a great looking hotel once completed, probably the best looking Best Western in the city.

How shagadelic... Always good to see San Antonio as the chosen city for experimental and new concepts. With over 10 new hotels going up around the Downtown area in the next 5 years, it looks like SA may be in line for that national political convention they've been drooling for. BIG money (and a BIG amount of rooms needed).

The rumor mill also tells me that Plano's very chic (and inexpensive) NYLO brand hotel may make a downtown San Antonio debut in the next year or so, converting an existing warehouse-type building.

michelangelosa is on a distinguished road
Speaking of West Side Peak, does anyone have any information? They did have a site but then it was taken down making me think the development was dead but with yesterdays announcement, it seems to still be alive. Hopefully they'll put their website back up.

I found a PDF with some info. on Westside Peak - http://www.dbharrell.com/brochures/w...%20package.pdf

Also, Best Western has some renderings of a typical 5-level Atria hotel - Best Western Hotel Development

Good to see them fixing that area up and Lackland definitely needs some better hotels. The ones right next to it are not something I would want first-time visitors to the city to see.
