I thought 281 & Hildebrand sounded odd for a burger joint location, since that intersection is pretty much surrounded by Incarnate Word and Brackenridge Park. There's no service road along 281 at that location, either. Smash Burger's website lists the address as 21,025 US Hwy 281, San Antonio 78258. A number like 21,025 sounds like it would be several miles north of 1604.
I think there's something wrong with the location listing on Smash Burger's website.

You obviously haven't had Earl Abel's chocolate pie. I wouldn't go to Earl Abel's for a burger, but something with mashed potatoes and gravy.

For my pie fix (which luckily doesn't need a hit too often) the only thing that will satisfy is Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls....not a big pie fan, but that place takes it to another level. Their food, so-so, but the pie, oh yes. In an "I'll have what she's having" kind of way.
Earl Abel's just didn't turn out to be the legend I was hoping for. Bun n Barrel had these Chester Cheetah-looking orange onion rings that were delightful and very non-greasy.

anytime something is bought out by another company the results are never the same, as inthe case of EA. I never ate at the old one or the new one but A place doesnt stick around a major San Antonio intersection unless its doing something correct.

Actually....I meant the Chocolate Cake! Agreed on the excellence of pies at Blue Bonnet Cafe.

Alright, went to Dough tonight. Very dissapointed that the webiste menu and current menu did not match. I find this highly unprofessional and very offensive.
Beyond that, Dough had a great hostess and sommelier working who helped us choose wine while waiting for our meal.
Our waitress was okay but a bit rushed.
I had expected a moderate evening based on the prices online but we ended up spending a hundred bucks on dinner and drinks.
Not unheard of, just not what we expected, WELL, we expected it once we started ordering, just not upon arrival based on the online menu.
The flat bread, margharita pizza and tiramasu were fab as were our 3 wines each,i just did not expect a hundred dollar night. We went to the hotel bar at aloft next door afterwards..

8 out of 10 restaurants that have menus on their website don't keep them current because they lack the internal staff/technology to update their websites. They're restaurant operations folks, not web designers. I recently met someone who has put together a specialty web service to help restaurants update their menus on their own sites, but has gotten feedback from many restaurant owners that people "don't really pay attention" to the menu online or that customers assume the online menu will be slightly different from what is actually at the restaurant (because of seasonality issues, etc.).

I found MANY places to be like this. I believe the last restaurant I visited like that was Tre. I LOVED the food/atmosphere, but it was the same way. The website didn't have an updated menu. It didn't bother me a bit. I agree with Celeste, most restaurants/online menus are like this. Stay positive and hopefully you will get what you want the next time you go out.
