Cool, thanks for the info! I really wish they would have gone with The Egg & I or a local restaurant instead.. I didn't think the IHOP Cafe on NW Military was anything to write home about.
Yes, Aloft is a hotel right across the way. There is a bar inside, "Wxyz". While walking up to the bar I remembered they had been written up in 210SA. I disagree with the NYC vibe, the bar actually reminds me of some young scenes in Toronto.
Very lame review. Okay bar, lacked the youthful presence though. Plop that place in Addison or Uptown Dallas and you would have to wait in line to pee.
They do actually have 3 Alofts in the Dallas area. We stayed at the one in Las Colinas several weeks ago since we were in town for a concert and they are a dog-friendly hotel brand. The bar area was actually quite busy from happy hour until close both nights we were there, mainly w/young corporate folks from the area rather than guests - we didn't hang around it much, though.
Right now all Alofts look virtually the same - same bar setup, same pool table, same guest rooms, etc. - but I wonder if that will change in the future.
Ah Las Colinas? The manager had mentioned Frisco...cool.
Is was the opposite at the SA location. Seemed like guests who had already changed and dressed down and comfy for the night. Hanging out at the pool and inside pool table.
Drove by the former location of Oodles this morning and saw the sign now says Smash Burger. Smash Burger's web site says that location is opening in July. The web site also mentions a location at 281 and [edit]Evans[/edit] opening this month.

Barbaresco restaurant, San Antonio. Who knows anything about them? They are located On San Pedro at Ramsey in the building that was Maggies. The building has been under construction forever, but when I drove by the other day it looked like it was close to being done. They actually had tables in there! I found this website but it is not very helpful. . . . : : : BARBARESCO, SAN ANTONIO TX. OPENING SOON : : : . . . I don't think the building pictured is the one here in San Antonio. So they must have another location. What's the scoop??
Barbaresco is a Guadalajara, Mexico restaurant. The Restaurant has excellent food - Mexican, not Tex-Mex - that is high quality, plated well, and served well. Taste is excellent! The restaurant itself is beautifully appointed, and it is truly a pleasure to eat there. They did advertise in Guadalajara that they will open in San Antonio. I'm certain that if your choose to dine there once they open, you will not be disappointed
