Default Ma Harper's Creole Kitchen - positive move

Ma Harper's Creole Kitchen has moved to the Government Hill area, 1816 N. New Braunfels Ave. (used to be Johnny's Seafood Restaurant). It's kind of an isolated area now that Ft. Sam's New Braunfels gate and the Quadrangle have closed entrances there, but it's easy to get there from Grayson or I-35.

The move doesn't seem to have slowed down the regulars, the place was almost full on an early Saturday evening. Ma Harper's food has always been excellent, and now service seems to have improved.

The food is still individually prepared, but the tables now get more attention & things happen a little faster. Our bowl of creole gumbo, fried chicken breast platter, and shrimp poor boy were as good as ever.

We've been to Harper's last four locations, it's not always been easy. San Antonio should have more cooks as committed to their vision as Ma Harper. New phone # is 226-2200, closed Monday & Tuesday as before, Urbanspoon has updated their page.

Not sure if this qualifies as a restaurant, but a new(and looks like a large stand alone) Starbucks is being built on the SW corner of 1604 and Bulverde.

Are you sure about that? I drove by yesterday and the For Lease was still up and there was no activity of any sort seeming to take place.

Well. That's not a REAL Step 'n' Kick. The real ones are in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. The one in Austin isn't even remotely as yummy as the real ones.
