Gonna try the new Soup and Salad at Alamo Ranch, just behind the Bill Millers in that little strip mall going up to Walmart (not actually Alamo Ranch, but at that corner, don't know the name of the little strip area)...friends said they were good, give a military discount and VERY clean! Right next to the Wok Inn

Has anyone heard any news about what will be replacing the "Shorty's" restaurant in Helotes (the place next door to Floore Country Store)?

I have been to the Furr's once near Zarzamora and that one was insanely busy and crowded. Food was decent but having to fight my way around the crowd at the buffet area made me never want to go back.

I went in there thinking it was like the original cafeteria concept but it is different now.

I had the same experience. I grew up on Furr's and like it a great deal. The one on the south side is "interesting." I was happy that even though a full "buffet" the food still tasted like Furr's. I also expected a cafeteria. The one thing that is nice about an all you can eat cafeteria is the wait staff go get more of whatever you want. The bad thing is waiting for the wait staff. I think I am "OK" with the buffet.

I thought the waitstaff was mostly to keep your drinks full. I didn't know they will go to the buffet also to get what you want from there.

Their salad bar is the best I have ever seen of any buffet place and I may go back for just the salad. They make souper salad look cheap.

I dont think the waitstaff at the buffet will go to the buffet for you (they might) I was talking about the old school cafeteria Furr's. You went through the line once and then the waitstaff would get you all the "seconds" you wanted. I like that.
